The West Australian Model Railway Club (WAMRC) is WA’s oldest Model Railway club still in existence, and is now open to the public all year. The WAMRC was a permanent exhibit at the Perth Royal Show for many years, but was forced to relocate in the late 1990s when the Claremont Showgrounds were extensively redeveloped. Since moving to our new home we have been busy building four layouts in three different scales!
Hi, is there an o gauge group in the club?
Hornby, Bassett Lowke and Bowman stock?
Hi Norman — no we don’t have an O‑Gauge group in our club. We model in HO(/OO), N and G Scale. Sorry!
Hello , I have just learnt that Arthur Cross has passed away over 2 months ago I believe , I know I delivered some model train bits and pieces to someone at your club , I wondered if you were aware of his passing as I know he was once a very keen enthusiast with your club. He was a dear friend to our family and could not believe that we were not notified of his passing, do you have any information as regards to how he passed away and did he have a funeral… Many thanks Vicki Schultz…
Hi Vicki,
Sorry to hear about Arthur Cross. No — we weren’t aware he had passed away and don’t know any further details. I have done some searching but can’t find any references online. I know he had family in NSW and Tasmania — maybe he had moved interstate?
Arthur was a valued member of our club having joined in May 1968. By the time I joined (1996) he had been awarded life membership of the club for his exceptional service in the past. But he was no longer an active member by then and I never met him in person until March 2018 when he moved out of his long-time home in Waterford and he donated some stuff to the club as he was drastically downsizing.
He confided in me then that when he met his wife, Nancy, his time for model railways was drastically curtailed! Apparently they shared a passion for ballroom dancing and were regulars on Wednesday evenings — the same night of the week our club would meet. Dancing always won! It was clear to me then that he loved Nancy very much and was still very much affected by her death a little over a year prior (Jan 2017).
Regards,
Ross.
